Dick Van Dyke talks about Mary Poppins [15 Nov 2009|06:56pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[crystalfairie]

Dick Van Dyke went to see the Mary Poppins show for the first time over the weekend. He was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight and talks about Mary Poppins, DWTS, and the passing of his girlfriend. Gavin Lee, who originated the role of Bert in the London, Broadway and Tour productions, also makes a cameo appearance.

Showbiz great Dick Van Dyke sits down with ET's Kevin Frazier and opens up about the loss of his beloved girlfriend Michelle Triola, who passed away last month.
"I'm doing alright," Dick tells us about coping with his loss. "I'm doing ok. It's things like this and my many friends and my very large family keeping me busy."
Amid the difficult times, the busy 83-year-old star reminisces about his 1964 classic 'Mary Poppins' with ET.

It's a jolly holiday )

idc, I loved Dick as Bert. Quick, ONTD, favourite Mary Poppins song? Also, out of general curiousity, who knew that the books came before the movie.

John Stamos gets a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Actor John Stamos will receive the 2,393 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, honoring a career, which has evolved from the family comedy "Full House" to television drama and Broadway.

Television producer and movie director Garry Marshall and Stamos' "Full House" co-star Bob Saget will join Stamos in speaking in the late-morning ceremony (11:30 a.m.) on Hollywood Boulevard--if you've seen any of Saget's comedy stand-up routines, you just might be wondering what this event could bring.

The Stamos' star, located at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard, will be next to Dick Van Dyke, who played Albert Peterson in the original Broadway production of "Bye Bye Birdie," a role Stamos now plays on Broadway.

Stamos' career spanned more than 25 years, beginning with the hit soap “General Hospital.” He later segued to one of the most iconic family television programs playing “Uncle Jesse” on the popular ABC series “Full House.”

He later appeared as Dr. Tony Gates on NBC's "ER" from 2005 until it ended its run in 2009.

In case you were wondering, Judge Joseph Wapner was the 2,392 star on the Walk of Fame.

The fellow star recievers of 2009 are:

MOTION PICTURES:
Tinkerbell, Tim Burton, Leslie Caron, Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey, Jr., Charles Durning, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Jackman, Sir Ben Kingsley and William H. Macy
TELEVISION:
Mark Burnett, Felicity Huffman, Chuck Lorre, William Petersen, Kyra Sedgwick, and John Stamos
RECORDING:
Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds, Dave Koz, The Miracles, Doug Morris, RUSH, Shakira and The Village People
RADIO:
Bill Handel and Harry Shearer

Something to look forward too? The 2010 Class of Stars.

Stamos displayed his musical talents over the past 20 years while touring with “The Beach Boys.” However, we do not foresee a star in the recording category anytime soon.

oh yeah, and roast beef, too. And gravy, and peas, and roasted carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. But most importantly, YORKSHIRE PUDDING.

This was my first attempt at this grand and most favourite meal. I did overcook the meat, which I think is a common issue, but it was still so so tasty. I am currently enjoying cold roast beef sandwiches with mustard.

SNL : Who makes a better Hoda? [15 Nov 2009|04:53pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[enfeebledchi]
[ music | Andrew Bird - Oh No | Powered by Last.fm ]

Last night, SNL newbie Jenny Slate was put in the unenviable position of picking up a character created by Michaela Watkins, a one-season castmember who was let go earlier this year. Watkins had carved out a niche for herself on the show with a spot-on impersonation of Today show anchor Hoda Kotb—the straight woman to Kristen Wiig’s boozy, bawdy Kathie Lee Gifford. But the sketch was revived yesterday with Slate in the role, a slightly jarring change to those of us accustomed to seeing Watkins in the chair next to Wiig.
My colleague Ken Tucker thought the sketch was pretty underwhelming and took pity on Slate for having to “compete with the memory of Watkins’ original impersonation and sit by while Wiig did mugging that wasn’t freshened with anything new.” I actually laughed a few times during the sketch, but I agree that it feels like Slate’s got her work cut out for her if she wants to outshine Watkins. Check out the sketch below, and then let us know: Do you miss the old Hoda? Or did Slate manage to make the character her own?

I know none of us miss Casey Wilson, but Michaela Watkins was really funny, imo. Last night it bothered me to see new girl in her place doing a pretty pathetic job.

EDIT: Here's one with Michaela for comparison.

Brock Lesnar Hospitalized ... UFC Career and His Life Are in Jeopardy! [15 Nov 2009|04:20pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[druglessdouglas]

In an announcement that shocked the media during the UFC 105 post-event press conference, Ultimate Fight President Dana White announced that Brock Lesnar is "not well and he's not going to be getting well anytime soon."

"He's in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now," said White. "He doesn't want to talk about it publicly, but he's in bad shape."

The monstrous Lesnar pulled out of his scheduled November 21st main event at UFC 106 against Shane Carwin after contracting what he thought was a bad case of the flu but was then diagnosed with mononucleosis. After the official announcement was made that the fight was postponed, contracts were sent out for a January 2nd fight between the two. When Lesnar did not return the contract signed to UFC, he decided to take some time off and go to Canada, where he has some property.

White commented, "He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we've got to figure it out. He is not good. He is very, very sick and he's going to be out for a while."

When asked about Lesnar's reported case of mononucleosis, White added, "He has other problems too. I am worried about it. You know, I can't really talk about it right now, but he's in rough shape. He's in really bad shape … and we're going to have to do some stuff to take care of this guy. We're going to have to send him to the Mayo Clinic or to Scripps, or one of those really good hospitals to figure out what's wrong with this guy."

Even Lesnar's close friend and business associate Paul Heyman, the legendary writer/producer/on-air-personality with whom Lesnar closely worked during his tenure in World Wrestling Entertainment is keeping mum on what's ailing the current UFC Champion.

In an articled written by Heyman Hustle webmaster Michael G and posted late Saturday Night (http://heymanhustle.craveonline.com/articles/news/22656-brock-lesnar-hospitalized), the webmaster wrote:

Many of you may be checking in with THE HEYMAN HUSTLE because of Paul Heyman's personal friendship and reported business relationship with Brock. For those of you who are looking for that insight, I can tell you that Paul has not discussed this latest development with any of us, but is aware of this story being posted tonight. Paul has promised to update on the situation this week. While there are many rumors flying around, it does not appear that a full diagnosis is available, and after the press had already run with the mono story, it's obvious Lesnar's health problem is serious and perhaps even complicated.

Lesnar's mono now appears to be the least of his issues. UFC will have to crown an Interim Champion, and Brock Lesnar's UFC career seems to be in jeopardy at this time.

Some other dog lovin' [15 Nov 2009|09:09pm]

too_much_info

[queerpup]
My mum's dog is a lovely fella, but as a rescue he can be a little neurotic and needy. I was looking after him recently when she was away on holiday, and the first couple of days are always a little fretful for him.

This time, he demonstrated his fretting by chewing on his blankets - one sheepskin, and one microfleece blanket. Not the end of the world - I picked up the bits covering the floor and thought no more of it.

Until walking time.

He was straining to have a poo - squatting, shuffling along, arse 4 inches from the ground, then stopping, straining, waddling along a bit further and so on. I walked over to where he was, poo bag at the ready to clear up after him, and there was just a long strand of poo coated stuff hanging from his arse, and it wasn't coming out any further. So I grabbed it with the bag, tugged, and about 6 more inches of fleece blanket, coated in poo and mucus drags out of his arse, and makes me feel really quite unwell.

Finn didn't seem to particularly appreciate it, either.

and here's the mutt in question )

Interview with Katey Sagal, aka Peg Bundy aka HBIC Gemma [15 Nov 2009|09:37pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[airings]

Katey Sagal is back in Mommie-Not-So-Dearest mode. The actress was hardly the model mother as the wise-cracking, lazy housewife Peg Bundy on Fox's "Married . . . With Children." But that character would be "Mother of the Year" next to Gemma Teller Morrow, the ruthless matriarch of an outlaw biker club on FX's "Sons of Anarchy." The role on the drama, which has grown in its second season to one of the cable network's most popular dramas, is the latest in a gallery of TV mothers for Sagal, who also played a soccer mom on the comedy "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter." While thrilled over the growing popularity of "Sons of Anarchy," which was created by her husband, Kurt Sutter, she still finds time for her first love -- music. She often performs at the intimate M Club in Hollywood. As she sat in one of the club's booth, she talked about TV bikers and the late John Ritter.
